The Suburban Temple, affiliated with the Union for Reform Judaism, is a well established Reform Synagogue that has been serving the Bellmores, Merricks, Wantagh, Seaford, East Meadow and Levittown communities since 1952. We offer a complete Jewish program for the whole family. Special membership dues structures are available for Young Families, Couples and Singles. Interfaith Couples and their families are welcome. The Suburban Temple is an active and vibrant congregation that has something for everyone.
Traditional Reform Shabbat Services: Reform Judaism was born in the 19th Century in Europe. It arose to answer a need of Jews who wished a more open, accepting and loving Judaism. Today, Reform Temples and Synagogues are found throughout the world. Reform believes that Judaism can change. Such innovations as mixed seating, organ music, and Confirmation were introduced by Reform Judaism. Reform Judaism has been ordaining women as Rabbis, since 1972. We look upon our Temple as an extended family. The Rabbi and congregation laymen work together in shaping the programs of our congregation. Reform believes in open dialogue and democracy in Jewish life. This is to be found within the congregation of The Suburban Temple.
In our congregation, we are also enriched by the added voices of the adult and youth choirs. In addition, music is a vital part of our educational program, which includes the passing along of traditional chants to the Bar and Bat Mitzvah and Confirmation students. In our community, we combine traditional and new music in a participatory service. Our volunteer choirs welcome new members. We urge the entire congregation - children and adults - to join us in song.
